We’re funding ecofeminist action for a healthy & toxic free future – Our network can apply now!

The project Ecofeminists in action for a Healthy and Toxic Free Future is launching its first grant-programme and is asking those in WECFs Ecofeminist Network to send us an expression of interest.

Every day we are exposed to chemicals that harm our health. Even in small doses, these chemicals can accumulate and disrupt our hormone system and cause lasting damage and disease. Currently there is too little done by legislators to protect our health and the environment from harmful chemicals and waste.

WECF has been working for a toxic free future since its creation over 30 years ago, based on the principles formulated at the Earth Summit in Rio 1992: the polluter pays, reversal of the burden of proof, the precautionary principle and the right to public participation and information and access to justice in environmental matters.

As a part of the project ‘Ecofeminists in action for a healthy and toxic free future’,  WECF will give out grants of up to 15.000 euro before the end of the year. WECF is looking for Ecofeminist Network Members/Partners that are working towards a toxic free future from an ecofeminist perspective.

Proposed activities can include:

  • Capacity building
  • Awareness raising
  • Education
  • Media
  • Policy advocacy
  • Testing of exposure and pollution to chemicals
  • Development of alternative, safer solutions.

Women’s role and leadership and focus on gender-equality and women’s health can be a focus.  Also, links can be made to policy processes such as the Global Framework on Chemicals, the BRS and Minamata Conventions, Plastic Pollution Treaty and European chemical and waste regulation.

Selection of grantees will be based on the following criteria:

  • The project focuses on the topic ‘Toxic Free Future’.
  • The project or organization uses a feminist and/or intersectional approach.
  • The organization is part of our ecofeminist network database (as reflected here: Our partners – WECF
  • A regional balance of the selected projects is taken into account.

You can apply by sending the idea for a project to us, by sharing with us:

  • A working title of the project
  • A short description of what you wish to do (ca 500 words)
  • A brief summary of the previous work your organization has done in the field of a toxic free future (ca 500 words)

Kindly share this information with toxicfreefuture@wecf.org before the 5th of October 2025. If there is a sense of urgency for your project (funding is needed right now), make sure to mention that as well.

After reviewing the expressions of interest, the selected candidates will be asked to submit a project proposal and budget breakdown.

The WECF team is looking forward to your expressions of interest!
