WEN’s Green Baby Briefing

The Green Baby Briefing, Feathering Your Nest is a publication by one of our partner organisations, WEN. In this briefing paper, the problems with toxic chemicals are brought to light again in relation to the arrival of a newborn, and useful tips and resources are provided for how to minimize toxic chemical exposure before, during, and after the pregnancy.

This briefing provides an in-depth explanation of the effects of Endocrine Disruptive Chemicals (EDCs) in the different stages of family planning, from the first stages, until the toddler phase. As well as giving specific tips on how to best prepare a toxic-free nest. For example, what personal care products to avoid, what products can be replaced with safer alternatives, and which products can be eliminated from your life altogether.

If you are expecting or planning a family, it is important to learn about EDCs and how to best avoid them. But keep in mind that within the current world situation, there is only so much you can do to avoid toxic chemicals, as they are widespread, and everywhere around us.

As one of our focus points, we fight for a toxic-free and gender-just future. Every day we are exposed to chemicals that harm our health. Even in small doses, these chemicals can accumulate and disrupt our hormone system and cause lasting damage and disease. We are continuing our work related to the education regarding toxic chemicals and our advocacy work to ban Endocrine Disruptive Chemicals (EDCs) and far stricter measures and testing/evaluation for chemicals used for consumer products.
