We are proud to start our work as gender-partner of the Green Livelihoods Alliance

We are excited and proud to officially start our work as gender-partner of the Green Livelihoods Alliance (GLA), as part of The Netherlands governments civil society partnership program “Power of Voices”. The aim of the GLA is to halt deforestation and promote sustainable forest governance.

We believe that the only way forest conservation and governance can be sustainable is by ensuring a rights-based and inclusive approach, which means that the voices of underrepresented groups who depend on forests for livelihoods must be heard.

With GLA we will strengthen participation of women, especially from Indigenous Peoples and Local Communities in decision-making and policy making on forest conservation. Also we will contribute to cross-movement building by bringing together the forest movements and women’s rights movements, through joint capacity strengthening and advocacy. As an alliance, we will work together to promote policies that are gender-responsive and based on grassroots feminist analysis as well as to promote female leadership in governance, and to see this translated and retained in national and local legislation.

Together with the 70 GLA partners in 12 countries around the world, and our strategic partner Global Forest Coalition, we will address historic gender-imbalances and support transformative change.
