UNECE meeting on equitable access to water and sanitation

Our Bistra Mihaylova took part in the 4th UNECE meeting (13 -14 Sep) of the Expert Group on Equitable Access to Water and Sanitation in Budapest, Hungary.

The meeting was attended by 30 participants, including country representatives from the pan-European region who work on equitable access to water and sanitation, as well as representatives from development partners, international organisations, civil society organisations and stakeholders engaged in the provision of water and sanitation services. As part of the meeting, stakeholders from Armenia, Azerbaijan, Hungary, Serbia, and FYR of Macedonia shared their experiences on applying the equitable Access Score-Card – which includes process findings, learnt lessons and next steps to be taken. In addition, experiences for developing and financing Equitable Access Action plans were shared. Experiences were also shared related to self-assessments on the equity of access to water and sanitation in their own regions, information, financial possibilities and lessons learned from all the processes.

The last section of the meeting was devoted to the contributions of each county to a publication on Equitable Access for the MoP5 which will take place in November 2019. This publication will aim to consolidate in a short manner the lessons learned and the impact of the work carried out in the countries from the pan-European region under the Protocol on Water and Health in the area of equitable Access to Water and Sanitation since 2010.  Such publication could act as an inspiration to more countries to improve the equity of access to water and sanitation and should be considered as a contribution to targets 6.1. and 6.2 of the Sustainable Development Goals.
