WECF Receives Silver Rose Award for Just Transition

WECF is recognized for its pivotal work in steering advocacy and grassroots mobilisation, and highlighting the intersection of gender justice, environmental sustainability and human rightsand promoting international solidarity to sustain global advocacy efforts.

The Jury (1) decision states:

The Silver Rose Just Transition Award 2024 proudly honours Women Engage for a Common Future for their leadership in uniting gender equality and climate action to build a more inclusive and sustainable world. Through their collective action, they hold decision-makers accountable and champion a fairer, brighter future for all, especially on the global stage.

WECF’s ecofeminist and intersectional approach focuses on building local resilience while addressing anti-gender and anti-human rights backlashes; this is even more essential as environmental and humanitarian crises continue to escalate” (See Solidar press release).

Sascha Gabizon & Melano Tskhvaradze, on behalf of the whole WECF team, accepted the award and expressed their gratitude:

“We are truly thankful for the recognition of our collective efforts in advancing transformative gender equality, climate justice, and sustainable development, alongside our fellow colleagues and partners in 70 countries. This achievement is shared with everyone who has supported and worked alongside us in this important, ongoing mission. Especially in these uncertain times, being an ecofeminist is (might be) a privilege for some, and a real threat for others. This award therefore strengthens our determination to achieve an ecofeminist future”.

WECF received the award in the category Just Transition, alongside award winner outgoing EU Commissioner Nicolas Schmit (Jobs and Social Rights) who received the ‘Lifetime Achievement Award’, and the late Glenys Kinnock, receiving the ‘Legacy Prize for Social Justice’. Glenys’ family was present to receive the prize on her behalf.
