WHAT WE DO

As part of the Funding Fairer Futures project, a coalition of 37 grassroots and civil society organisation comes together to put capacity on the Fair Housing and Fair Energy for All campaign.

We are living in a time of overlapping crises, including climate, housing, and energy crises. These crises are driven by an extractive, profit-driven economic system that deepens inequality. People who are already marginalised, such as low-income communities, migrants, women, racialised groups, young people, and people with disabilities, are most affected by high energy and housing costs.

To address climate change, many systems such as housing, transport, and urban planning must change. Making these systems climate-resilient can also make them fairer, healthier, and more inclusive.

GENDER AND ENERGY CAMPAIGN

Across Europe, inadequate policy design, combined with a lack of resources, information, and accessible technologies, has created a situation where energy regulations risk pushing people out of their homes, rather than protecting them.

Energy poverty is a global problem and can be seen as a situation in which a household lacks socially and materially necessitated levels of energy services at home. Estimates show that 9.2 percent of people in the European Union cannot keep their homes warm during winter1

Women are disproportionally affected by energy poverty. The intersectional perspective analyses different factors that women are facing. The physiological, health, economic and social situation of women put them and their households at higher risk of energy poverty.
