This is a follow-up session on the summer school in Thessaloniki, which took place earlier this year. During this, we looked deeper into gendered needs, barriers in the energy community, and gender mainstreaming tools. The summer school aimed to initiate gender mainstreaming and overall contribute to a gender-just energy transition. Now, it is time to take the next step of empowering energy communities by empowering women. Hence, we are here with a 1.5hr session on women’s empowerment and gender equality in energy communities and the means to achieve it.
The concept of energy communities is becoming more prominent and visible in Europe to achieve the climate goals by 2030 and provide access and affordable renewable energy such as solar and wind energy. This is a way to contribute to a democratic, just, and inclusive energy transition across Europe. However, when we talk about citizen participation in the energy sector, it is important to observe and be aware that it is still a male-dominated sector. It is thus, essential to give opportunities and encourage women to not only participate but also stand in decision-making positions, technical positions, etc. and with confidence. The aim of the webinar is to concretize the gender targets of energy communities and to translate the on-paper goals of integrating gender in energy communities into reality by finding ways to empower women and to implement gender tools. In this webinar, we will have open dialogues, recommendations to support gender-just energy communities, pan-Europe good practices that can inspire you, open and dynamic discussions with speakers and we conclude the session with some takeaways from this webinar.
This webinar is hosted in the framework of the EUCENA project, WECF and REScoop.
