Courageous Coversations on Art and Climate

On May 20th, WECF, together with the Green Hub of the University of Twente, organised a Courageous Conversations on Art and Climate event combining students, creativity, and climate action. 

Participants could explore climate change not only through discussion, but also through art where we had the “Art on Climate Change”  competition, funded by the European Union. Participants were invited to create artworks inspired by climate change and sustainability, using canvas or recyclable materials such as old magazines.  

During the event, participants took part in a workshop by Abby French, the Sustainable Fashion Friend, who led a workshop on fast fashion. The session opened up a space for dialogue about the environmental and social impacts of the fashion industry. At the end of the event, the jury had to choose which artworks stood out the most. The quality and originality of the paintings made the selection challenging, and prizes were awarded to multiple winners. 

The event showed how art can open up new ways of talking about climate change. By combining creativity, reflection, and dialogue, Courageous Conversations on Art and Climate gave participants an opportunity to express their concerns, hopes, and ideas for a more sustainable future.
