Biomonitoring of lead and cadmium: Preliminary study

The RIVM (Dutch national institute for public health and the environment) published a report on the biomonitoring of substances possibly hazardous to health.

The RIVM research investigated the possibility to monitor hazardous substances in the population. This investigation concentrated on two hazardous substances, lead and cadmium, which can enter the body via food. Lead and cadmium both have a negative effect on the kidneys. The goal of the investigation was to demonstrate a relationship between the exposure to these substances and their presence in the human body, and possible effects of this for health. The RIVM advices to measure the investigated substances in the Dutch population on a bigger scale
