A thought starter for the negotiations of a Global Plastic Treaty, 2023

The plastic crisis we are facing is enormous and global in nature and is therefore urgently in need of a global solution. The United Nations Environment Assembly (UNEA) adopted resolution 5/14 “End plastic pollution: Towards an international legally binding instrument”. This entails the development of an international “legally binding instrument on plastic pollution, including in the marine environment with the ambition to complete the negotiations by end of 2024”.

We welcome this unique and very important opportunity for a global legally binding UN plastics treaty as a commitment of countries and stakeholders to reduce and stop the negative environmental and health impacts of plastics.
