Support survivors of the earthquake in Turkey

Help is urgently needed in the aftermath of the devastating earthquake hitting Turkey and Syria.

Our partner IMECE, has packed a car with 200 EFE solar powerbanks, and will drive to several cities which have been ravished by the 7.7 magnitude earthquake. The solarbanks integrate a flashlight for SOS signals and provide an autonomous source of energy for mobile phones – to facilitate life-saving communication.

IMECE will first drive to the city of Gaziantep tomorrow as a base and then hit different cities in Turkey such as Iskender, Antakya and Kahramanmaraş.  Besides solar batteries, they will also bring other essential materials – primarily items to survive the harsh winter conditions – such as blankets and sleeping bags. During their visit they will analyze the situation and cooperate with other actors on the ground to determine the most efficient approach.

IMECE won the Gender Just Climate Solutions Award in 2021 for one of their projects called “the Solar Age” project which supports Syrian women refugees in Turkey. The Solar Engineering Course, a 10-day theoretical and practical training in solar energy, benefitted 200 women refugees. Among them, 20 have also been trained to build EFE (Energy For Everyone) solar batteries. The EFE batteries are specifically designed for the needs of refugees. The program additionally offers educational and language courses to children refugees.
