WECF Recommendations for the Netherlands National Portfolio of Action on the Ostrava Declaration

At the 6th Ministerial conference on Environment & Health held in 2017 in Ostrava, Member States of the WHO European Region agreed to work on a National Action Plan in the field of health and environment. Out of the seven focus areas, the Netherlands has chosen to focus on the themes Water & Sanitation, Reducing the negative effects of Harmful Substances on Health, Active Mobility and improving Air quality and Sustainable Health systems.

WECF has contributed to this project by carrying out consultations among stakeholders and pointed out recommendations from civil society on these focus areas. Through consultation sessions, facebook groups and webinars, WECF made sure that many stakeholders got involved in the Ostrava National Action Plan. This resulted in the Action Plan to become more concrete for many stakeholders, and valuable recommendations from civil society regarding the seven Ostrava focus areas have been brought to attention. These recommendations are ultimately given as input to the Ministry of Infrastructure and Water Management and can thus be included in the Ostrava “Portofolio” of the Dutch government.
