Afrikadag Workshop – Why Dutch Forest Policy needs Ecofeminism
Protecting African forests is crucial in fighting climate change, biodiversity loss and for sustaining life on earth. Climate change as a consequence of deforestation and forest-degradation disproportionately affects women and yet they remain underrepresented in decision-making processes. Forest governance therefore can only be sustainable when it is inclusive and rights-based, protecting the rights of people that depend on forests.
In the workshop “Why Dutch Forest Policies needs Ecofeminism”, WECF will talk about the impact of deforestation and forest degradation on women in forest-rich areas in Africa and its link with international forest policies in the Netherlands. We are going to present our recommendations from our intersectional, ecofeminist analysis of Dutch Forest policies and discuss the responsibility of the Netherlands towards forest-rich countries in Africa. We will also share gender-inclusive climate solutions for forest management on a local level and through national policies in Africa.
