SUMMARY:Africa day online: Why gender matters for climate justice
DESCRIPTION:Ugandan perspectives with ARUWE and WECF\nMonday 6 September\, 13.00-13.30 CEST\, online. \nWith Agnes Mirembe (ARUWE\, Uganda) \nClimate change enhances existing inequalities\, such as gender inequality. In our work towards climate justice\, we need to acknowledge existing inequalities and fight them at the same time. We need to listen to the solutions\, perspectives and lived experiences of diverse voices to make climate justice a reality. \nIn this session hosted by WECF – Women Engage for a Common Future – we will be joined by Agnes Mirembe. She is the executive director of Action for Rural Women’s Empowerment (ARUWE) an organization based in Uganda. In cooperation with WECF\, ARUWE has been working on a women-led transition of local communities to sustainable solutions\, such as the transition from firewood and charcoal for cooking towards sustainable briquettes that are locally produced. We will hear Agnes’s stories about the importance of gender-just climate solutions\, from the local level in Uganda to the global level at climate negotiations. Join us to ask Agnes all your questions! \nregistration link: https://www.eventbrite.nl/e/afrikadag-online-registration-168393259773 \n
